The fast food restaurant will only use paper ones in all it's UK and Ireland restaurants, starting from September.
Believe or not,they say they use 1.8 million straws a day in UK.That's a lot of straws.
But McDonalds say the ban won't happen worldwide yet.
McDonalds has become the latest company to say they are going to stop using plastic straws.
We use an estimated 8.5 billion plastic straws every year in the UK.They're among the top 10 items found in beach clean-ups.
Most straws are made from plastic straws called polypropylene which, unless recycled, take hundreds of years to decopose and are only used for a very short time.

Mcdonalds is going to ban straws and get paper because of animal and human safety they say we the UK uses over 1.8b straws are used in a day and over 8.5b in year and it is not world wide yet it will be done on September they are also doing it in some supermarkets one time a woman died by chocking on a straw. Do you think to do this?

Birds have been found eating plastic and blue planet ll are raising money to stop people putting plastic in the ocean so no more animals go extinct.
Scientists have made a medicine to push out all of the plastic out of the stomach and they say that it does not harm the birds it only clears all the stuff out of their digestive system so they can eat even more food.

McDonald's is one of the latest industries to stop using straws in the UK.
They say they use 1.8 million straws a day in the UK and 8.5 million straws every year and 17 million in 2 years. That's a lot! Most straws are made from a plastic called polypropylene and polystyrene, these take a very long time to break down, compose. Many end up in landfill and oceans.Blue Planet 2 has shown the damage that plastic can cause to animals. Waitrose says that they are going to remove all straws by September 2018. This is great news! Morrisons are not going to have any straws in the cafes and will be 'plastic free' by 2023.Restaurant Pizza Express decided to change its plastic straws to biogradable by summer 2018. There are also lots of coffee shops which are stopping plastic straws too.
I think getting rid of straws is a great idea because it will stop littering and the animals will not get hurt. I am looking forward to this.
